You'd
be hard pressed to find a minor league baseball setting that is more pure
than Damaschke Field in Oneonta, NY. By "pure", I mean
that baseball is the thing here. Wacky promotions are at a minimum,
and there are no "bells and whistles" designed to attract
"casual" fans.
Whereas other teams have pressured their communities into
building new ballparks with luxury boxes and other amenities, the Oneonta
Tigers are content to stay at home in their 1940 bandbox of a
ballpark. They are not interested in all of the extras; they do just
one thing here - baseball. They don't even sell beer, though they do
offer a limited menu of concessions.
Tigers owner Sam Nader is committed to providing a
community based family style entertainment through his team (thus the lack
of beer), and has pledged that as long as he is owner, this will not
change.
More power to you, Sam.
Bottom Line: Damaschke Field is very sub-par
as far as facilities, but it is top notch when it comes to a
pure minor league baseball experience.
