Memorial Stadium
Fort Wayne, IN

Team: Fort Wayne Wizards
Affiliate: San Diego Padres
Opened: 1993
Capacity: 6,300
League: Midwest League

Sometimes unremarkable places can provide great experiences.  That's the case with Memorial Stadium in Fort Wayne.  The place itself is unspectacular.  But, I had a great night here.  I suspect that this was because I was here on one of the final games of the season, it was the first day of the Memorial Day weekend, and there was a fireworks show, so there was a heightened level of energy.

An inspection of the actual ballpark reveals that it needs that higher level of energy.  This is not one of the more finely designed parks out there.  There are concessions both behind the grandstand and nestled in the middle of it (see the second picture below).  This is an interesting touch, but for the most part, the stadium is dominated by bland concrete and an unremarkable setting.  The giant murals in front of the stadium are a nice touch, but they don't do much once the fans are inside.

The bottom line: A below average stadium, but because the fans packed the place the night I was there, the promotions were fun, and the staff friendly and accessible, it was a very fun above average experience.
