Frontier Field is a beautiful park that reminds me a lot
of Durham Athletic Park.
There were two things that stood out to me about Frontier
Field. The first was the urban setting. I love a ballpark with
a view, and one of the best ways to do that is to build an urban park with
a view of the skyline. Okay, Rochester isn't exactly Manhattan, but
the view is still pretty nice. One distinctive building is the Kodak
tower, which is visible behind the left field stands.
The other standout quality, for me at least, was the
concessions. There are no cookie-cutter concession stands
here. Every stand had a different specialty, from Mexican to
grilled foods to frozen cheesecake on a stick. This is probably one
of the best eating places in the minors.
Drawbacks, though few, included a rather large foul
territory and the lack of a wraparound concourse.
Bottom line: I found Frontier Field to be an above
average ballpark at the AAA level.
