Note: This
review was written before I actually saw a game at Lackawanna County
Stadium. I have since seen one, and that review can be viewed here.

I have no formal review
of this stadium, as I did not see a game here; the people you see in
these pictures were playing a benefit softball game. There are a
few things I can say about the place, however.
| 1. It's big. It's got a
capacity just under a thousand more than Bowie's Prince
George's Stadium, but it seems so much bigger, probably
because of the double deck configuration. Normally, I like
the idea of a second deck because of the better overall view of
the field that one gets, but this is a bit too high, making it
feel too "major league".
2. It features artificial turf,
thus becoming the first park listed on Small-Parks.com to do
so. This is not a great honor. |
|
Although the seats are a
bit high and far from the field, the worst part about this place appears
to be the turf, at least as far as I can say without actually having
seen a game here. Grass would improve this place
tremendously. Alas, it was built for future Phillies, who (at
least for now) play on turf, but hopefully when and if Philadelphia gets
a new stadium with a grass field, Lackawanna County will follow suit and
replace the rug.
