Municipal Stadium
San Jose, CA
Team: San Jose Giants
Affiliation: San Francisco Giants
Capacity: 4,200
League: California
Completed: 1942

Municipal stadium is an oasis of nostalgia in the midst of a technology-driven city.  Built in 1942 as a WPA project, this is one park that has truly stood the test of time.

Immediately upon entering the gate, you can feel the love for the game as depicted through art.  This has to be the ballpark with the most murals I've ever seen.  By far. There are paintings honoring historic players, minor league teams past and present (including all of the current leagues), and even a few that are just plain fun (see last picture below).

The stadium itself evokes images of yesteryear.  It is somewhat reminiscent of the late Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, only without a roof.  The view is gorgeous, overlooking a portion of the city and a small mountain range.

This is a delightful place to catch a game.

The Bottom Line: Of course, my opinion is biased by the fact that I like the older ballparks, but I consider Municipal Stadium to be an excellent ballpark.

Municipal Stadium is filled with beautiful baseball themed murals ...

... even in the most unexpected places.
