Richmond County Bank Ballpark
at St. George (no kidding ... that's the full name) is a nice, impressive
ballpark, especially for the New York-Penn League. But, allow me to
cut straight to the chase. The view is unbeatable.
It would be nice enough to sit
and enjoy the Staten Island Ferry and other large boats passing by from
time to time, but the real treat is the view one gets of Manhattan across
the bay. Unfortunately, the day I was there, it was very hazy, and I
only saw a vague silhouette of that skyline from the park (I could see it
much better on the early stages of the ferry ride there).
The stadium itself is pretty
standard. With the exception of an exterior that looks like a ferry
station and that features giant sails over the main entrance, there aren't
nearly as many stylistic touches as the park's cousin, Keyspan
Park in Brooklyn, has. Still, the concessions are above average,
and there are some nice tributes to Yankee baseball.
Bottom Line: An above
average park with an outstanding setting.

The water provides a nice view, but the haze
on this day obstructed a fabulous vista

You can just barely make out the skyline here,
but I've been told on a clear day, the view is fantastic!

Boats like this one are a common sight
throughout the game
